My Passion, My Vision, My Dream of a European Spa

I have a passion for natural wellness. I believe in living a healthy, active and balanced lifestyle.

After providing and completing 20 years of service in Massage Therapy to the community of Unity. I had the desire to add more value to my services.

I pursued Massage Therapy as a career because of all the help I received 38 years ago. I was so grateful and I wanted to help half as many people as the late Grace Thain from Mid Night Lake had helped over the span of 40 years. I believe I would and have provided a great service to Unity and District.

Once again I was faced with psoriasis and checked out all the options for treatment, there was little out there for me to choose from. Through research I found European Spas offered natural treatments for psoriasis. Twenty years ago there was no training in Saskatchewan so I ventured to acquire the training that I needed.

I went to Raleigh, South Carolina, and Minneapolis to get and understand developing a Spa. I had a number of plans and dreams were grandiose. I continued pursuing training for spa services. I then traveled to Oakland, California to learn about body wraps and different kinds of mud and how to wrap. There is an art to this

I journeyed to Las Vegas to the I SPA (International Spa Association) and there I gained many contacts and was overwhelmed with all the choices one had to make regarding products from all over the world! Here I connected with a company call Moor, which offers the most amazing mud that I still use in the Spa today.

My next journey was to Santa Fe, New Mexico where a German couple came to teach the Kniepe method of spa treatments. It was fascinating and exciting to learn all the health benefits that could be addressed through the use of Hot and Cold Water Treatments under high pressure. Learning that all showers and baths should end with ice cold water for great health benefits.

Other amazing body treatments that I learned about and continue to provide at the Spa:

  • Body Brushing using natural bristle brushes
  • Body Wraps using linen material, European mud, peat and seaweed from all over the world and from different depths of the oceans
  • Hydrotherapy using the Kniepe Method

These body treatments will help with different skin problems, calm nervous system reducing stress load on body, reduce swelling from legs, detoxify and re energize the body.

This in not magic or an overnight quick fix, it take time. To restore for body and to address any ailments the body has it take time. We suggest doing 6 consecutive treatments as well as setting up a specific home care system for 30 days. It is absolutely regenerating and reviving experience.

I continue to attend yearly Spa conferences in Vancouver or Vegas. One has to keep up with the industry. When I travel I go and experience different spa treatments to see what they are like and see if I would bring them into my spa.

Today there are many “Spas” but few that offer the treatment with water or all the mud treatments.

Call and Book your Body Wraps/ Exfoliation or Hydrotherapy Treatments.

Experience all of this right here in Unity!

Holiday Plan

HOLIDAY PLAN ~ Geraldine Barrett

As summer quickly passes I reflect on my holiday and how I altered my plans.

I had planned to travel southern Saskatchewan, visit family and celebrate my mom’s 95th birthday for my holiday.  In between I would visit some new towns to take in their museums and restaurants. Tourism Saskatchewan has a great Discovery Guide; “See Sask First”. There are many hidden treasures in our beautiful province. However; my plan changed quickly.  My oldest sister was moving into a condo and needed to be out of her house.  She had a lifetime of treasures to go through and was exasperated as how to get started.  I made the decision to “shift gears” and help her.

Many of us experience intense days getting ready to leave on holidays and are exhausted before we even leave.  Cranky none the less! I decided I needed some TLC so I booked a body wrap and a facial at Sunsera Spa in Saskatoon as I headed out on my holiday. Rather than rush down the highway eating a sub I enjoyed a nice supper at the Granary in Saskatoon.  I had a wonderful waiter who added the perfect touch to my holiday.

The next day my sister and I surveyed what needed to be done and how to proceed. I had a plan in my head and we started our task. Pauly who is a dear friend was a faithful worker alongside us.  More friends showed up along the way to pitch in.  The hours were long and emotions were high at times.  It’s hard to pack up memories. I’m so glad I’d had my spa treatments. I was more relaxed and energized to work and deal with all the emotions with love.

I managed a visit to my youngest sisters’ home who lives 20 km from Grasslands Park where we grew up. Three of us 4 girls plus our niece and her husband did a tour and visited the family and grandparents farm.  What memories. I slept over at my sisters’ home that evening which was wonderful.  I spent an hour walking through her beautiful yard as it is like the Bouchard Gardens. Her husband is so creative and particular.

We celebrated mom’s 95th birthday taking many pictures and making memories. I also took a drive to the lake and had a nice visit with my son and his beautiful family.

Back to sorting, purging, cleaning and hugs or we would never have gotten through this undertaking. The garage sale took place on Thursday from 6 – 8 and Friday from 9 – 4. It was in the garage – driveway – the lawn – the patio – the deck – and 2 rooms in the house. We were busy! By 9:00 pm Friday night the garage was clean and the patio and deck tables were gone. Loretta & I had a dance in the garage! We were exhausted as 12 – 14 hour days had taken a toll on us.

I booked a body wrap & a full body massage at Wrapture Spa in Moosejaw. I was exhausted and needed to rejuvenate.  The Eminence wrap was very relaxing and the deep tissue massage was invigorating as the stress and tension oozed out of my body. Vicki did an amazing job.

Why am I sharing this story? I want to emphasize how important having a full body massage and/or a body wrap before and after a holiday can make the difference from enjoying a holiday or ENDURING it while secretly wishing you were home. What did you learn from my story? Plan your holiday – schedule your massage and add it to your holiday budget. For you and your spouse. The benefit is you will be more relaxed, less stressed and ENJOY each other during your holiday.

Conclusion: Make your holiday a wonderful success. Have a massage before you leave and be sure to keep the appointment. Everyone will love you! Especially You!

My Facial

August 4, 2016

I was apprehensive before my first facial as I thought it would make my face very red.

Geraldine explained what every cream and masque contained – and about all the natural ingredients eg. citrus, kale, apricot….

All this was done on a warm bed while I was lying down comfortably.

There were cool and hot sensations. The chamomile lotion was calming.

My skin now looks smooth and is not red! I have booked another facial for September!

Water

Reasons Why You Should Drink More Water

Water by Abby Phon March 20, 2012 2:20 PM Edited by Verlie 07-13-2016

I’ve often been complimented on my clear, youthful skin. I thank my water intake! As with most things, the amount of water for each person is very individual, but if your pee isn’t mostly clear or you have any of the symptoms I mentioned above, you most likely aren’t getting enough water. Some suggest 8 (8oz) glasses a day while others suggest take your body weight (in pounds), divide it in half and drink that many ounces.

If you don’t care for the taste of nothing, add lemon, lime, fresh mint, a few berries, watermelon, or a few slices of cucumber or orange. Love is a glass of water!

A Cardiac Doctor has reported gravity holds water in the lower part of your body when you are upright (legs swell). When you lie down and the lower body (legs, etc.) is level with the kidneys, it is then that the kidneys remove the water because it is easier.

Message from a Cardiac Specialist!

Drinking water at a certain time maximizes its effectiveness on the body.
2 glasses after waking up – helps activate internal organs
1 glass 30 minutes before a meal – helps digestion
1 glass before taking a bath – helps lower blood pressure
1 glass before going to bed – avoids stroke or heart attack and also may prevent night time leg cramps. Leg muscles are seeking hydration when they cramp and wake you up with a Charlie Horse.

A Doctor wrote an interesting book on the benefits of drinking water. He recommends his patients drink water for at least 30 days and return in one month. His report was the majority of his patients no longer had any symptoms they previously came in with.

Don’t Medicate, Hydrate!

  1. Increase Energy & Relieves Fatigue

Your brain is mostly water, drinking it helps you think, focus and concentrate better and be more alert. As an added bonus, energy levels are also boosted!

  1. Promote Weight Loss

Removes by-products of fat, reduces eating intake (consumed prior to meals), reduces hunger (natural appetite suppressant!), raises your metabolism and has zero calories!

  1. Flush Out Toxins

Gets rid of waste through sweat and urination which reduces the risk of kidney stones and urinary tract infections.

  1. Improve Skin Complexion

Moisturizes your skin, keeps it fresh, soft, glowing and smooth. Gets rid of wrinkles. It’s the best anti-aging treatment around!

  1. Maintain Regularity

Aids in digestion as water is essential to digest your food and prevents constipation.

  1. Boost Immune System

A water guzzler is less likely to get sick. Drinking plenty of water helps fight against flu, cancer and other ailments.

  1. Natural Headache Remedy

Helps relieve and prevent headaches (migraines & back pains) which are commonly caused by dehydration.

  1. Prevent Cramps & Sprains

Proper hydration helps keep joints lubricated and muscles more elastic so joint pain is less likely.

  1. Puts You In A Good Mood

When the body is functioning at its best, you will feel great and be happy!

  1. Save Money!

Water is FREE! Even if you choose bottled/filtered water, it’s still cheaper than a high sugar and fat-filled latte or soda!

Bride to Be

Bride to Be

Over the years I have heard new brides share how little they remember of their wedding day.

Preparation is so intense and they want everything to be perfect. However; the bride forgets about herself….. To look after herself…. Eat Healthy. Get enough sleep. And book a few massage sessions to prepare starting 2-3 months prior to the wedding and the week of the wedding.

There are several ways the bride can do this:

These are some ideas that the bride to be has done in Sunrise Wellness Spa.

  1. 3 Generation Spa Day with the Bride to Be that included – mud wraps, full body massage and a facial. Each lady lived in different province so they spent this time reconnecting before the wedding.

2. A mature Bride to Be had her long-time friend attendees all meet at the spa to have a massage and facial. Three of her friends never knew one another so it was a time to meet and connect before rehearsal. They loved this idea and even had lunch in the Solarium.

3. Another Bride to Be organized her decorating committee at the hall and while they were decorating she came for a full body massage. This was her time to de-stress and enjoy her day as the queen.

  1. Yet another Bride to Be had to gift of a spa experience from her bridesmaids. They arranged for the Bride to Be to have a facial and a full body massage while her attendees had pedicures and facials. They enjoyed a nice lunch in the Solarium together.

Whatever helps you de-stress and relax you have to take time for it.

Your wedding is an important day in your life. Take the time to remember it.

Beard Care: Shaving Tips & Tricks

Written By: Christie Pike

Men have skin care needs too, so in honor of the bearded (and clean shaven) men out there, we’re sharing a few of our quick and easy tips on how to get that perfect shave.

FOR THE CLEAN SHAVEN MAN

The Shave Prep:

De-flake with an exfoliating facial scrub. It will help you get a closer shave while reducing ingrown hairs. The key to a good shave is preventing those inflamed, post-shave bumps. One thing that men can do to avoid ingrown hairs and raised bumps is proper exfoliation. “De-flake with an exfoliating facial scrub. It will help you get a closer shave while reducing ingrown hairs,” suggests Men’s Health Magazine.

Prior to shaving, we suggest our Red Currant Exfoliating Cleanser (Named Best Facial Exfoliator for Men by Harper’s Bazaar). This cleanser and exfoliant combo will help wash and buff away dead skin and unclog pores.

The Shave:

Shaving creams don’t necessarily make a good shave. Some shaving creams are filled with unnecessary perfumes and foaming agents which can irritate the skin. Instead, we suggest opting for a cream-based cleanser like our Lemon Cleanser and our Calm Skin Chamomile Cleanser which are both free of parabens, sodium lauryl sulfates, synthetic dyes and petrochemicals. These cleansers have a pleasant herbal scent and contain antioxidant-rich ingredients that help hydrate and nourish the skin while softening the pre-shave stubble.

The After-Shave:

Couperose-C Serum contains peppermint which provides a soothing and cooling sensation to freshly shaved skin while our Calendula Oil is loaded with alpha and beta carotenoids that enhance your skin’s natural healing systems.

Serums are light-weight in consistency but high in concentrated nutrients so they are the perfect option to help calm, hydrate and protect the look of skin post-shave. Our Calendula Oil and Couperose-C Serum are a couple of great options. Couperose-C Serum contains peppermint which provides a soothing and cooling sensation to freshly shaved skin while our Calendula Oil is loaded with alpha and beta carotenoids that enhance your skin’s natural healing systems.

For men that are prone to ingrown hairs – our Facial Recovery Oil is another great after-shave treatment as it contains the anti-bacterial qualities of tea tree.

FOR THE BEARDED MAN:

When it comes to a dapper looking beard, any type of conditioning care would be beneficial for softening and smoothing coarse facial hair as well as the skin underneath. Beards are back, and we know a good beard when we see one. Keeping a beard sleek and well-groomed can sometimes involve just as much maintenance as shaving every day. When it comes to a dapper looking beard, any type of conditioning care would be beneficial for softening and smoothing coarse facial hair as well as the skin underneath.

We suggest adding a few drops of our Facial Recovery Oil in the palm and then gently smoothing over the beard for a hydrated and shiny finish.

Another one of our product picks is our Apricot Body Oil. A key ingredient in this hydrating solution is jojoba oil which mimics the activity of your body’s natural oils and contains almost all of the vitamins and minerals essential for healthy skin and hair (Wellness Today).  And with the honeyed scent of apricot, this is a great option for men who aren’t afraid to show off their “sweeter” side.

THE SPF FACTOR

Beard or no beard, SPF protection is a must every day, especially after a shave when exfoliated skin tends to be more sensitive to the sun’s harmful rays. Beard or no beard, SPF protection is a must every day, especially after a shave when exfoliated skin tends to be more sensitive to the sun’s harmful rays. If you’re looking for an SPF moisturizer with a fresh, masculine-friendly scent, we suggest our Tomato Day Cream – SPF 16 or for a higher protection factor, our Bright Skin Moisturizer with SPF 30.

Fight Aging with Eminence

Fight Aging with Eminence

MARCH 22, 2016

Written By: Karen Young Chester

This is an essential time to embrace the changes in your skin and refocus your skin care routine for a complexion that continues to radiate health and beauty

Raise your hand if you’ve hit (or passed) your 50s and keep your hand up if you’re enjoying your decades with pride! This is an essential time to embrace the changes in your skin. However, like all life stages, the 50s bring new culprits that hold you back from experiencing your best skin. Here’s a quick guide to fight aging with Eminence:

DRY SKIN

Firm Skin Acai Moisturizer is one of the best products for skin care over 50, especially in combating dry skin.  Dry skin issues tend to happen as we age because the skin barrier becomes weaker and can’t repair as easily. This leads to further damage and, eventually, wrinkles. The answer, of course, is to moisturize and there is no better source of hydrating mature skin than the Firm Skin Acai Moisturizer. Rich in shea butter and skin-plumping hyaluronic acid, our Firm Skin Acai Moisturizer virtually erases signs of aging with its delivery of intense hydration.

SLACK SKIN
With age comes a decline of estrogen which affects collagen and elastin production. Without these proteins to give strength and elasticity, skin starts to slacken and hang more loosely. One solution is adding Bamboo Firming Fluid to your skin care routine. Formulated with strengthening agents like bamboo and coconut, this effective serum also includes Natural Retinol Alternative to smooth the appearance of wrinkles, and Swiss Green Apple Stem Cells which reduce the signs of aging. These key ingredients work together to visibly tighten the look of skin and ensure you look younger and fresher.

UNEVEN SKIN TONE
As sun exposure accumulates over the years, age spots tend to appear on mature skin on the cheeks, neck, hands, shoulders and arms. One easy remedy is the Bright Skin Targeted Treatment which uses licorice root extract, punarnava and turmeric to reduce the look of dark spots. By dotting this powerful treatment on individual spots, you can diminish the visible signs of age spots and reduce the look of specific problem areas. Overall, you’ll find your complexion looking brighter and more even in skin tone.

Eminence Organic Skin care has over 100 products to address your skin concerns. If you need more information about Eminence and what it can do for you call or stop in. We will answer whatever questions you may have. Or call to book a facial and experience a variety of the products available and spend time an hour with our skin care specialist. Facials done with Eminence is definitely a buffet for your skin. Aging with Eminence can be a beautiful experience.

VitaSkin™ Targeted Treatments Vs. VitaSkin™ Booster-Serums

Written By: Karen Young Chester

Do you suffer from problem skin, uneven skin tone or aging skin? If so, you’re probably using the VitaSkin™ booster-serums to remedy your skin problems. And if you’re applying these in your regular skin care routine, you may be wondering, “Why do I need VitaSkin™ Targeted Treatments too?” We have three examples that compare Targeted Treatments with booster-serums, and clarify how Targeted Treatments fit into your skin care routine.

Treatment vs Serum

And just as you apply stain remover only on the soiled areas of your clothes, you dab on your Targeted Treatment to fix contained and specific skin concerns.

TARGETED VS. ALL-OVER

Targeted Treatments focus their laser-like powers on one specific area. Think of it as the difference between a stain remover and a laundry detergent. Sure, you need laundry detergent to get the whole load clean but will it fix the red wine stain on your blouse or the grass stain on your jeans? Just as you pour laundry detergent into the washing machine, a booster-serum applies an all-over solution to your skin care problems. And just as you apply stain remover only on the soiled areas of your clothes, you dab on your Targeted Treatment to fix contained and specific skin concerns.

PORTABLE VS. AT-HOME
Each Targeted Treatment comes in a convenient, slim pump that fits easily into your purse or your back pocket – perfect for your commute or travel. Booster-serums, on the other hand, are dispensed from our elegant glass bottles and designed for your morning and evening application at home. Imagine this difference in the same way that you compare your tablet and your desktop computer. Your tablet is smaller in size and convenient to use on the go whereas your desktop computer is designed for work at home or at the office. Similarly, our easy-to-carry and easy-to-dispense Targeted Treatment is convenient for use anywhere but our booster-serums are best applied in a home or spa setting.

CORRECTIVE VS. PREVENTATIVE & MAINTENANCE
Another difference between Targeted Treatments and booster-serums? Targeted Treatments are corrective in nature – they fix the problems that have already popped up on your skin. Booster-serums, on the other hand, focus on preventing problems and maintaining skin conditions. If your skin has a tendency towards a certain concern, booster-serums help stop the issue from developing and they also keep your complexion healthy and beautiful. Think about choosing a teeth-whitener vs. a toothpaste. The first product actually whitens yellowing teeth while the other product concentrates on preventing teeth from yellowing and keeping your smile sparkling and fresh. In the same way, Targeted Treatments zap the issues that surface while booster-serums help prevent the issues from occurring in the first place.

Add VitaSkin™ Targeted Treatments to your skin care routine today or ask your Éminence Skin Care Specialist to include them in your regular facial treatments.
