Farewell to the Unity, SK Red Rooster

We are sad to see an iconic building in Unity go. The Red Rooster was the first business to go up that served soft ice cream and make you sub sandwiches.

It served gas and was a confectionery store so if you ran out of bread, milk or ingredients for your muffins that evening you could run down and grab what you needed.

The Red Rooster provided a hangout location for all the young children in the summer giving them lots of wonderful memories to cherish.

We used it as a landmark for directions to get to the Spa and now we will use the Country Car Wash as our landmark to turn right and you can see the Spa from Railway Road.

Eileen Baptiste and the late Joe Baptiste were the last wonderful owners who gave this unique service to a small Saskatchewan town!

SST Mineral Makeup

SST Cosmetics is based in Saskatoon and quickly taking over the Canadian beauty market with their high quality mineral based products that enhances ones natural beauty without harmful ingredients. Sharon Sharpe-Titus, Founder of SST Cosmetics puts the health of the makeup artist, stylist and consumer first, all while performing at the highest standards. Each product comes in a sexy, yet sophisticated, high fashion black packaging with a richly pigmented formula.

SST formulations use the highest quality minerals from around the world. These minerals are finely milled before ingredients are added to the minerals. These ingredients are what take the minerals from a loose powder form to a pressed, liquid, gel or cream form.

PARABEN FREE – Parabens are used as preservatives in many cosmetics and personal care products. Parabens have been found to weakly mimic estrogen in animal studies due to the fact that parabens easily penetrate the skin. This raises health concerns because of the link between estrogen and breast cancer. SST has made a choice to use paraben free formulations. High levels of antioxidants help to preserve our product in the same manner that parabens would.

FREE RADICALS – Free Radicals are naturally occurring particles in the body associated with accelerated aging and an increased risk of major diseases. Exposure to pollution, smoking and excess sunlight increases the number of free radicals in the blood. Potent antioxidants found in many of the ingredients in the SST formulations add to the belief that antioxidants not only promote good health but also make you look younger.

SST Tinted Primer & Moisture Kick is a 3 in 1 BB cream formulated with a unique blend of vitamin E, hyaluronic acid, nourishing red seaweed extract and tourmaline. It helps to even out skin’s texture and tone, minimizing the appearance of enlarged pores, fine lines and wrinkles, while keeping skin moisturized and reducing redness. It can be worn alone or underneath your favourite foundation or powder. It is lightweight and has almost a silky consistency that glides over the skin with ease and offers medium coverage. It blends beautifully whether using a foundation brush or fingers.

SST CC Cream offers a breakthrough with colour correcting foundation and concealer in one. It offers medium to full coverage in a mousse like texture that glides over the skin like silk. Continued use helps to diminish the appearance of uneven skin tone and pigmentation due to the powerful extracts of tomato and cabbage. They are suitable for all skin types and now available in 4 self-adjusting shades.

SST Skin Perfecting Balm is a weightless colorless primer which helps smooth away fine lines and minimize pores all while healing skin imperfections. Blends of Vitamin C & A, Tea Tree and Chamomile for antiseptic heal and soothe the skin. The perfecting balm cuts shine and controls oil.

SST Hydrating Lipstick is the perfect lipstick for dry Canadian winters. This lipstick is incredibly hydrating but still provides excellent color. It never feels tight or dry and it doesn’t cling to drier areas on the lips. It provides about 3 to 4 hours of wear time.

SST Powerplay Powerstay Collection comes in waterproof long lasting multi-functional pencils.

POWER STAY BROW PENCIL “FORM” is designed to perfect, fill in and finish your brows.

Fall Skin Care Tips

Written By: Christie Pike

There are so many things to love about fall – cozy sweaters, colorful leaves, crisp fresh air and that feeling of change that comes with every new season. Falling leaves could be the first indication that change is in the air, but our skin can also show the effects of a seasonal transition. Seasonal change can leave our skin feeling dull, dry and dehydrated – but it doesn’t have to be that way.

We have 5 simple skin care tips that will help give you that perfect glow all season long:

  1. Don’t forget your Eminence SPF
  1. Exfoliate
  • Exfoliation is the key to glowing skin. As we age, our natural ability to regenerate new skin cells slows. This can cause surface build-up which can leave our skin looking congested, dry and dull. We recommend:
  • Strawberry Rhubarb Dermafoliant(daily treatment)
  • Yam & Pumpkin Enzyme Peel 5% (weekly treatment)
  1. Moisturize, moisturize, moisturize
  • Autumn brings cool, windy weather which can cause your skin to become dry and dehydrated. The fall season is the perfect time to correct any sun damage caused by summer heat and sunshine. Make sure to pick a moisturizer or masque that works best for your skin type. If your skin is extra dry, don’t be afraid to use heavier, natural, oil-based products. We recommend:
  • Facial Recovery Oil
  • Pumpkin Latte Hydration Masque
  1. Body care is a must. Skin care doesn’t stop at your neckline – it’s important to moisturize and treat every beautiful inch of your skin. To help keep your skin healthy (after that summer tan) look for products that nourish and even out your skin tone. We recommend:

Stone Crop Body Lotion

  1. Protect your lips. The cool fall weather can leave your lips feeling dry and cracked. Protect and moisturize your lips daily with a non-petroleum based lip balm to keep your lips kissable all year long. We recommend:

Autumn Chop Salad

Beauty starts from the inside out. It starts and ends with eating Healthy.

Written by Chloe Hunt:

With leaves turning orange and days growing shorter, our skin will soon feel the seasonal change that arrives with the cold autumn breeze. Fall ushers in lower temperatures that dry our complexions but also brings harvest produce to nourish our skin. Foods like apples, pears, pumpkins and yams are all packed with essential vitamins and nutrients – delicious sensory treats for our taste buds as well as our skin.

To celebrate the arrival of autumn we’ve put together a delicious vegan autumn salad recipe for you to enjoy.

With a blend of vitamin-rich ingredients, this Autumn Chop Salad crams in apples and pears loaded with antioxidants to fight the aging effects of free radicals. Generous spoonfuls of pumpkin seeds bring a rich source of zinc, a mineral needed for immunity and skin health. Yams are another star ingredient – packed with potassium, copper and manganese which energize your body and rejuvenate the skin. Paired with a complementary apple and Dijon mustard dressing, this salad will have you – and your skin – ready for the change in seasons.

(Use organic ingredients wherever possible)
•    ½ cup Granny Smith apple
•    ½ cup ripe pear
•    8 cups spinach
•    ½ cup yams, cut into small cubes
•    ½ cup beets, cut into small cubes
•    3 tablespoons pumpkin seeds
•    1 tablespoon cranberries

Preheat oven to 400 degrees. Chop the yams and beets into small cubes. On a well-oiled baking sheet, distribute the chopped yams and beets evenly and sprinkle with a pinch of salt. Bake the yam and beet cubes for approximately 20 minutes or until browned. While the yam and beet cubes are baking, chop the Granny Smith apples and the pear into small cubes. Once the yam and beet cubes are cooked and nicely browned on the outside, remove them from the oven and place them aside to cool. Once the yam and beet cubes have cooled, mix them with the apple, pear, pumpkin seeds and cranberries and lay them on a bed of spinach.

Salad Dressing:
•    2 tablespoons grainy Dijon mustard
•    1 tablespoon agave syrup
•    2 tablespoons applesauce
•    1 tablespoon pure apple cider vinegar
•    1 tablespoon olive oil

To make the dressing, simply pour all the ingredients into a jar or container, adding ingredients to adjust the taste as you please. Shake well when ready to serve.

Sunrise Wellness Spa’s Transformation!

Our New Look!!!………….. Where are we going from here??

With 35 Years behind us, I have reflected over the many steps of change that have brought us to the edge of retirement. This is a journey and there have been many bends in the road along the way.

When I first started I visited a consulting firm in Edmonton. After many hours of brainstorming I reluctantly removed “Mon-Gee” from my business name, a name that meant a lot to me. “Mon” was used because it represented my father’s surname and “Gee” for Geraldine. However it did not have ‘sales’ appeal. We developed a new marketing plan and expanded the business into a spa. Then came the big change. A computer program would make business more efficient so I embarked on the technology world.

When I first started Pat Welter of Masterhand Designs was launching his career and made me my first sign to set up at #26 Brentwood Trailer Court.

In 2000 when I purchased the police barracks, Pat developed the beautiful blue sign that adorned the front lawn for 15 years. We ventured into new colors at the spa so a great way to start off the new look was a beautiful new sign created by Pat! Pat worked hard and brought color and meaning to the amazing sign that was ready for our 35th Anniversary on August 20th. Paul Marshal; a welder and great friend of Pat’s, said to me that the Spa’s new sign is some of Pat’s best work. We are so proud of it!

We added butterflies and flowers to the spa trademark and chose lavender and pink to bring a calming effect to the ambiance. Kait shared her talent of colors and decor, giving birth to a total new look. We transferred this new vibe of colors and images through-out the treatment rooms in the spa and onto our business cards and brochures.

The Butterfly is the symbol of transformation. A caterpillar spins itself a cocoon and emerges as a beautiful butterfly. This is the feeling we want our clients to have when they leave the spa. We want them to feel new and fresh, with renewed balance and beauty. We want them to feel transformed and invigorated.

I will share the history of the colours that Pat so meticulously shared as he designed the sign. It compliments the healing that colors bring us. The study of color therapy is fascinating.

White represents all colors to create balance and harmony. The Blue is a cooling color and helps relieve inflammation, headaches, and high blood pressure. Brown represents the earth so helps with body stability and grounding. Magenta regulates the adrenaline and heart activity. Violet/Purple stimulates the spleen & white blood cells to increase your immunity & relieve emotional stress. Indigo purifies the blood stream. Yellow strengthens the nerves, stomach, liver, and intestines. It also speeds up the digestion. Orange increases the thyroid, stimulates the lungs, the digestive system and relieves muscle cramps & spasms.

To complete the image Pat has brought new life to our display boards for trade shows and Christmas craft fairs. Our new vertical banner will give a great visual to all who walk by. It will give a lasting impression.

Thank you Pat for your talent here in Unity. Thank you to Kait for sharing your visionary talent.
