Do you take a holiday?

DO YOU TAKE A HOLIDAY?

Holidays and vacations mean different things to different folks.  Your time away from home should be a joyous event for you.  As a family or solo.

Destress Before you go, take the time for a massage to destress, so everyone can enjoy your company.  Especially you!

Holidays may be a time to reflect, journal and plan for some changes and improvements in your daily life.  Celebrate what has gone well, whether alone or with a partner.  Take time to connect to know what works in your life and what needs change.  Plan it!

Holidays offer great benefits for your health.  Getting extra sleep, soaking up a little extra sun and enjoying the tastes of different food can make your holiday burst with memories.  Lowering high blood pressure and weight loss makes a holiday a great idea and the benefits can last for months.

Employers and employees often decline to take a holiday.  This can cause a loss of productivity and increased glucose levels.  Not to forget your heart, so keep your blood pressure checked.  If you think you are too busy to go on a holiday, what about your wellbeing, and the stress relief.  It has been proven that holidays are the best way to boost productivity, longevity, and makes you happier.

Plan your holiday with a purpose.  It’s a great way to get away from it all.  It doesn’t matter where you end up, as long as the destination was amazing to you. Maybe you want to choose a once in a lifetime holiday or repeat the same one you did the year before.   Change is always a better option it doesn’t let boredom or fatigue set in.  Don’t be a slave to your holiday, it takes time to plan and pack so don’t replace your routine for a routine.   Is your holiday going to be an adventurous vacation doing white water rafting or more subtle by spending time with family and relatives?  If you spend time with other family members as part of your holiday, make sure you take a day or two for just your selves.  This lets you have quality time as a family and connect. No matter the holiday make sure it has a purpose.  Leave the stress behind and rejuvenate.

If you have staycation whether at home or close to it, there are lots of leisure activities within driving distance and you can still sleep in your own bed. Make a plan and don’t get stuck in the same routine just because you are at home.  So leave that messy pantry and cloths on the floor, it will be there at the end of your staycation.  This is a great way to cut back on spending.  You can visit local museums, fairs, go to the pool or lake and have a picnic, a movie with date night, golfing or take a bike riding adventure.   This may be time to develop an exercise routine, or sit back and read a thick book.  Best of all, spend time with your kids, doing kid things like a board game, talking and laughing.

Holidays may be a time to reflect, journal and plan for some changes and improvements in your daily life.  Celebrate what has gone well, whether alone or with a partner.  Take time to connect to know what works in your life and what needs change.  Plan it!

Reflect back on whatever holiday you experienced.  Smile and laugh at the memories and appreciate your time well spent.  Dream and plan for the next one.

Holiday Plan

HOLIDAY PLAN ~ Geraldine Barrett

As summer quickly passes I reflect on my holiday and how I altered my plans.

I had planned to travel southern Saskatchewan, visit family and celebrate my mom’s 95th birthday for my holiday.  In between I would visit some new towns to take in their museums and restaurants. Tourism Saskatchewan has a great Discovery Guide; “See Sask First”. There are many hidden treasures in our beautiful province. However; my plan changed quickly.  My oldest sister was moving into a condo and needed to be out of her house.  She had a lifetime of treasures to go through and was exasperated as how to get started.  I made the decision to “shift gears” and help her.

Many of us experience intense days getting ready to leave on holidays and are exhausted before we even leave.  Cranky none the less! I decided I needed some TLC so I booked a body wrap and a facial at Sunsera Spa in Saskatoon as I headed out on my holiday. Rather than rush down the highway eating a sub I enjoyed a nice supper at the Granary in Saskatoon.  I had a wonderful waiter who added the perfect touch to my holiday.

The next day my sister and I surveyed what needed to be done and how to proceed. I had a plan in my head and we started our task. Pauly who is a dear friend was a faithful worker alongside us.  More friends showed up along the way to pitch in.  The hours were long and emotions were high at times.  It’s hard to pack up memories. I’m so glad I’d had my spa treatments. I was more relaxed and energized to work and deal with all the emotions with love.

I managed a visit to my youngest sisters’ home who lives 20 km from Grasslands Park where we grew up. Three of us 4 girls plus our niece and her husband did a tour and visited the family and grandparents farm.  What memories. I slept over at my sisters’ home that evening which was wonderful.  I spent an hour walking through her beautiful yard as it is like the Bouchard Gardens. Her husband is so creative and particular.

We celebrated mom’s 95th birthday taking many pictures and making memories. I also took a drive to the lake and had a nice visit with my son and his beautiful family.

Back to sorting, purging, cleaning and hugs or we would never have gotten through this undertaking. The garage sale took place on Thursday from 6 – 8 and Friday from 9 – 4. It was in the garage – driveway – the lawn – the patio – the deck – and 2 rooms in the house. We were busy! By 9:00 pm Friday night the garage was clean and the patio and deck tables were gone. Loretta & I had a dance in the garage! We were exhausted as 12 – 14 hour days had taken a toll on us.

I booked a body wrap & a full body massage at Wrapture Spa in Moosejaw. I was exhausted and needed to rejuvenate.  The Eminence wrap was very relaxing and the deep tissue massage was invigorating as the stress and tension oozed out of my body. Vicki did an amazing job.

Why am I sharing this story? I want to emphasize how important having a full body massage and/or a body wrap before and after a holiday can make the difference from enjoying a holiday or ENDURING it while secretly wishing you were home. What did you learn from my story? Plan your holiday – schedule your massage and add it to your holiday budget. For you and your spouse. The benefit is you will be more relaxed, less stressed and ENJOY each other during your holiday.

Conclusion: Make your holiday a wonderful success. Have a massage before you leave and be sure to keep the appointment. Everyone will love you! Especially You!
