Continuing Education/Upgrading

Continuing Education/Upgrading

Continuing education is an integral part of any vocation today.

Registered Massage Therapists have mandatory credits to get every 3 years. However; I have had a passion for learning and finding our more about the mystery of the human body all my life.

This spring I took a cadaver class where we were studying the brain. It was fascinating and I clearly understand when it is said we only use 10% of our brain. What a “Motherboard” the human brain is.

I took 3 levels of craniosacral therapy 25 years ago from Upledger Institute. They have updated their curriculum in 2010. Cranial Sacral Therapy helps with headaches, motor vehicle accidents, concussions and trauma. Plus; it does address deep pain or tightness in the muscular system and supplies mental clarity.

Sometimes clients will experience emotional releases when having cranial or deep tissue massage. While in class we will be learning and exploring tissue memory and whole body diagnosis.

I am very committed to explore this field and upgrade to the present day understanding. There is a course in Edmonton which I will be attending September 15-18.

I will take one day of sport massage with James Waslaski on September 19. I took some classes from him 20 years ago. It will be exciting to see what he has added to his repertoire. Sport massage is a love of mine. I am a Certified Sports Massage Therapist with http://www.csmta.ca/

Although I am not free to travel to events as I once did I want to keep on the cutting edge of Sport Massage. Sport Massage will keep you in the game longer and with less injuries.

I am a committed lifelong learner so you may all benefit.

Why a Registered Massage Therapist?

Greetings from the solarium at Sunrise Wellness Spa!

I love to sit in the hammock and relax and reflect…

Today I would like to elaborate on the importance of going to a registered massage therapist (RMT).

An RMT has completed two years of massage therapy school and has passed the Board Exams of the Massage Therapy Association of Saskatchewan (MTAS).

The Provinces have worked hard to develop a high standard of massage education nationally. They have worked diligently with Insurance Companies and WCB and SGI to comply with the highest standard of massage education in Canada.

The Board exams are another safe guard of quality treatment you will receive.

When a therapist has passed the written and practical Board exam, the therapist then receives

designation of RMT and you as a client will then be able to be reimbursed by the many insurance  companies that cover massage therapy as well as WCB and SGI.

To maintain the designation of RMT the therapist must earn 40 credits through continuing education over a   window of 3 years. MTAS has approved many courses that one can choose from to upgrade and accumulate more tool for their tool kit, thus having a wide choice of methods to choose from when doing a massage treatment.

The Associations have worked with insurance companies and Blue Cross to assure them that the clients are receiving professional quality treatment for their accident injury and or health issues.

MTAS members must carry liability insurance as well..

I am passionate about continuing education and have traveled far and wide to take many courses that I was attracted to. It is so exciting and rewarding to gain such a diverse knowledge in this industry in order to give you the most effective treatment that most insurance companies will reimburse you for.

Gift Cards cannot be reimbursed through any insurance company or Blue Cross.

Check the designation of your massage therapist. Ask to see their certificate from MTAS.

Take Time for Yourself

Take Time for Yourself – Look After Yourself

It takes time to be healthy. We have to make a decision and take the steps to develop a health conscious lifestyle and contemplate what we need to do to accomplish this.

If you are already healthy look at the everyday MAINTENANCE! That means regularly making those hale and hearty choices and building them up so they transform into habit.

EAT RIGHT! – Your body requires good, hearty foods to keep it nourished and balanced.

DRINK WATER! – You need to drink 8 glasses of water every day to keep your body hydrated and functioning properly

EXERSIZE DAILY! – 30 min workouts, walking to work, walking stairs, riding a bike. Anything and everything will help as long as you are physically active and some point during the day. Do more vigorous work out 3x a week for example Weightlifting, Yoga, Pilates or a more intense cardio. Get your heart rate up and get the sweat going. This releases toxins from your body and your blood gets flowing, which brings more oxygen throughout your body this equals a healthy and healing body.

YEARLY CHECK- UPS! – Very Important! Ask questions if you are not performing the way you have been. Be interested in your health.

SUPPLEMENTS! – Our body needs a certain amount of vitamins and minerals to maintain health and we do not acquire all the nutrients that are required through our diet.

SLEEP! – Your body needs to reboot itself every night. Get your 8 hours every night! Lack of sleep takes its toll on ones health over time.

MONITOR STRESS!
– 98% of illnesses and ailments are caused by stress. Small stress that is not addressed accumulates and manifests in minor or even major health issues over time. ”Do not bank your stress!” Talk to a trusted person, find a counselor you are comfortable with or who will challenge you to look into your life. Learn how to let go and move on.

JOURNAL! Take time daily to reflect what your day was like. What did you learn from it? What is a keeper? What and how could you have made it better? Reflect daily, weekly and monthly and then do a year end reflection so you can start the New Year with positive plans to accomplish more. Know where you are going.

MASSAGE THERAPY! Book a monthly massage for health maintenance. You would be surprised how much your body tightens up in one month and how good and refreshing it feels when you have a monthly massage. Put this in your budget and make use of whatever insurance you have. Find a therapist or two who give you the results you are looking for. A massage should be deep enough to remove the “tightness” in your muscles or you will take pain and stress back home with you. Be sure your therapist “listens to you”. Give him/her feedback so you will be happy when you leave.

Our facials also provide reduced stress and relieves the strain on the face that left untouched develops into wrinkles and ages you faster.

LAUGHTER! is a great stress reliever and releases an endorphin that heals and repairs. Watch funny movies, play with your children, grandchildren or family members and laugh with them. Read a book that gives you a laugh. All of these will change the direction of your wrinkles.

TAKE TIME FOR EVERYTHING – Ecclesiastes 3:1-8 There is a time for everything and a season for every activity under the Heavens

I will quote a friend Paul Martinelli – “In search for the most powerful thoughts to share I have found that many of these thoughts have been attributed to many different thought leaders, making it impossible to give “credit” to any one person. I have chosen to leave off the names with the awareness that there is truly only one source…. God.”

Eminence Mini Facial Event

We had an Eminence Organic Skin Care Event October 26th!

We had our Eminence Representative, Christel Salamon, come down to teach a mini facial class to help ladies with their skin care routine at home and to talk about the products and their cold pressed ingredients and why these products are so beneficial to your skin. We featured the new Exfoliating Peels that Eminence recently launched and the Pumpkin Latte Hydration masque that is great for this time of year. We lose so much moisture in our skin during the summer due to the sun and winter is coming and with it the cold weather that tends to dry our skin out. They all are amazing products and aid in the healing of your skin!

These products are made in Hungary and all the ingredients are grown in Hungary. The products are 100% organic fruits and vegetables. The company grows the fruits and vegetables free of pesticides and chemicals and they are harvested all by hand. The company creates this organic skin care line as eco- friendly as possible. The farm where everything is grown is run off wind power and geo-thermal energy and the products are all cold pressed. There is no heat involved, therefore the products nutrients are not broken down.

When you put the product on your face, you are putting chemical free fruits and vegetables on your face and your skin is absorbing all the rich ingredients and benefiting greatly. One of the reasons why this product is so effective is because of the Bio-recognition. Your body already knows what to do with the ingredients you are putting on your face because these same ingredients are a part of your daily diet regime!  Click here for More Information on Eminence Organic Skin Care line.

The product is also made up of 98% Active Ingredients= Ingredients that are ACTIVELY CHANGING your skin! And we use these products in our Signature Customized Facials Here at the Spa!

And to top it all off Eminence Plants a Tree for Every Product Purchased!

Thank you to all the ladies that took the time to come down and take part in the class and learn about the products and the company and all the steps to maintain healthy, beautiful, and radiant looking skin!

We had a Big Eminence Product Door Prize that Liz Leibel Won!!

Tracey Schaab and Shauna Hammer Each Won THREE Consecutive FREE Facials!!

Kilimanjaro has been an area that Eminence has helped with the planting of trees, as well as areas including Burundi, Uganda, Ghana and Tanzania!!!And thank you to our Representative Christel, for coming out and sharing your knowledge about skin maintenance and Eminence Organic Skin Care products.

Sunrise Wellness Spa’s Transformation!

Our New Look!!!………….. Where are we going from here??

With 35 Years behind us, I have reflected over the many steps of change that have brought us to the edge of retirement. This is a journey and there have been many bends in the road along the way.

When I first started I visited a consulting firm in Edmonton. After many hours of brainstorming I reluctantly removed “Mon-Gee” from my business name, a name that meant a lot to me. “Mon” was used because it represented my father’s surname and “Gee” for Geraldine. However it did not have ‘sales’ appeal. We developed a new marketing plan and expanded the business into a spa. Then came the big change. A computer program would make business more efficient so I embarked on the technology world.

When I first started Pat Welter of Masterhand Designs was launching his career and made me my first sign to set up at #26 Brentwood Trailer Court.

In 2000 when I purchased the police barracks, Pat developed the beautiful blue sign that adorned the front lawn for 15 years. We ventured into new colors at the spa so a great way to start off the new look was a beautiful new sign created by Pat! Pat worked hard and brought color and meaning to the amazing sign that was ready for our 35th Anniversary on August 20th. Paul Marshal; a welder and great friend of Pat’s, said to me that the Spa’s new sign is some of Pat’s best work. We are so proud of it!

We added butterflies and flowers to the spa trademark and chose lavender and pink to bring a calming effect to the ambiance. Kait shared her talent of colors and decor, giving birth to a total new look. We transferred this new vibe of colors and images through-out the treatment rooms in the spa and onto our business cards and brochures.

The Butterfly is the symbol of transformation. A caterpillar spins itself a cocoon and emerges as a beautiful butterfly. This is the feeling we want our clients to have when they leave the spa. We want them to feel new and fresh, with renewed balance and beauty. We want them to feel transformed and invigorated.

I will share the history of the colours that Pat so meticulously shared as he designed the sign. It compliments the healing that colors bring us. The study of color therapy is fascinating.

White represents all colors to create balance and harmony. The Blue is a cooling color and helps relieve inflammation, headaches, and high blood pressure. Brown represents the earth so helps with body stability and grounding. Magenta regulates the adrenaline and heart activity. Violet/Purple stimulates the spleen & white blood cells to increase your immunity & relieve emotional stress. Indigo purifies the blood stream. Yellow strengthens the nerves, stomach, liver, and intestines. It also speeds up the digestion. Orange increases the thyroid, stimulates the lungs, the digestive system and relieves muscle cramps & spasms.

To complete the image Pat has brought new life to our display boards for trade shows and Christmas craft fairs. Our new vertical banner will give a great visual to all who walk by. It will give a lasting impression.

Thank you Pat for your talent here in Unity. Thank you to Kait for sharing your visionary talent.

We will continue to serve you royally with our bountiful spa menu. Be sure to check it out and try something new.
