Valentine’s Day and your Spouse

Valentine’s Day and Your Spouse –  http://michaelhyatt.com/

Written by: Michael Hyatt – At some point after walking down the aisle, after having children or after become very career focused, husbands and wives stop learning about one another and the most important relationship they’ll ever have. I discuss the importance of studying our spouses in my new book. ‘The 7 Rings of Marriage’, I call this stage or “ring” of marriage the “Discovering”. Discovering things about your spouse is life-giving to your marriage. I believe when discovering stops; the death of your marriage begins. You become complacent. You take one another for granted. You assume because you have known each other so long that your marriage would naturally grow as a result of time. My marriage grew alright. But not necessarily in the direction we wanted it to. We were both growing, just not together. My interests were changing and my wife didn’t always notice. My wife’s needs were changing, but I was oblivious to them. Finally we reached a point where we felt we didn’t really know each other which was scary. You may know the ins and outs of your business or ministry like nobody else but maybe you don’t know the ins and outs of your spouse. It may be time for you to enroll in the continuing education about your spouse.

3 Ways to Get an Advanced Degree in “Spouse”

  1. Do new things together. Several years ago my wife and I went snow skiing. Wow, what an experience! I never knew my wife was such a risk taker, while at the same time she learned how risk averse I am. I came away appreciating her boldness, which I’d never know like that before. She learned to find another partner when it comes to skiing, roller coaster riding or anything involving physical risk! Experiencing new things helps you understand and appreciate your spouse in new ways.
  1. Take notes. Notes help cement the lessons you learned and gives you the opportunity to later review and act on what was taught. Why not take the same approach with your spouse? Document your Spouse’s like, dislikes, health concerns, prayers, and anything else you find interesting about them. If you plan to study your spouse, you should be taking notes.
  1. Use your calendar. What gets calendared gets done. I’m not saying our spouses are nothing more than appointments. But things that don’t make it on the calendar receive the “out of sight, out of mind” treatment. Unfortunately, this happens in a lot of marriages. Put date nights and lunch dates in your calendar. Block out time to unwind each evening with your spouse. Even schedule down time where you can do nothing but talk together. Of course this is not an exhaustive list of ways to learn more about your spouse. The limits are only restricted by your imagination and creativity. The key is remembering there is no graduation or end date regarding the things you can learn about your spouse and your marriage.

Season change skin repair

4 Fall Skin Care Ingredients You Can’t Live Without

Written by Christie Pike.

When the seasons change, so does your skin. Now that October is in full swing, it’s time to repair your skin from summer’s sun damage, and to address new skin issues that are associated with seasonal change. By selecting the right skin care ingredients this fall, you can successfully manage uneven, dehydrated and lackluster skin that’s often characteristic of the cooler autumn months.

Below are 4 autumn-themed product ingredients that address all these issues (and more) to give you a flawless fall complexion:

  1. PUMPKINS

Pumpkins are rich in enzymes, beta-carotene, amino acids and antioxidants which can do wonderful things for your skin. Like clockwork every fall, the pumpkin obsession begins – from pumpkin Fall lattes to pumpkin pies, everyone wants a piece of this seasonal treat. But what if we told you that pumpkins can do much more than tantalize your taste buds? Pumpkins are rich in enzymes, beta-carotene, amino acids and antioxidants which can do wonderful things for your skin.

For pumpkin-perfect moisture, Best Health Magazine recommends our Limited Edition Pumpkin Latte Hydration Masque – “…soothe, nourish and, as [the] name implies, super-moisturize.” The pumpkin puree of nutrient-rich goodness in this masque is especially beneficial during the dry fall months when there’s less humidity and moisture in the air.

  1. YAMS

Why not take the beauty benefits of pumpkin to the next level by adding yams to the mix? Yams have been used in Asian traditional medicine centuries due to their tremendous healing powers. This root vegetable contain allantoin, a cell proliferate that helps the healing process when applied topically on ulcers, boils and other skin conditions (StyleCraze.com).

For the perfect fall pairing of ingredients, Examiner recommends our Yam & Pumpkin Enzyme Peel 5%. They love it so much that they’ve named it their favorite peel in their Best in Beauty Awards 2015:

As the perfect addition to any skin care regimen, this face peel does many great things for the skin. In fact, it can correct various skin issues such as DE-pigmentation and sun damage “As the perfect addition to any skin care regimen, this face peel does many great things for the skin. In fact, it can correct various skin issues such as DE-pigmentation and sun damage. And whether you suffer from acne or have once suffered from acne, you can also benefit from using this organic face peel.” – Sarah Afshar, Pittsburgh Beauty Examiner (beauty blogger and former makeup artist and beauty adviser).

  1. LICORICE ROOT

Fall is the perfect time to correct any sun damage that occurred during the summer months. Licorice root, which is found in our Bright Skin Licorice Root Exfoliating Peel, helps brighten the appearance of uneven or sun damaged skin for a more youthful appearance. This results-oriented peel uses licorice root and our Natural Hydroquinone Alternative to brighten the appearance of dark spots, while lactic and mandelic acids gently exfoliate dead skin cells. We recommend following this treatment (and all exfoliating treatments) with an SPF product like Bright Skin Moisturizer SPF 30.

  1. CRANBERRIES

In addition to adding bursts of flavor to food, this tiny berry adds impressive beauty benefits when used as a skin care ingredient. Cranberries are packed full of vitamins and antioxidants that help reduce the appearance of wrinkles. They’re also rich in phytochemicals with potent anti-inflammatory properties that are extremely effective in fighting the inflammation caused by problem skin (Livestrong). Take advantage of the beauty benefits of cranberries with our Limited Edition Cranberry Pomegranate Masque.

Shop Locally First

SHOP LOCALLY FIRST !!!

It’s Christmas time! It’s Shopping Time! Where should we go? The city…… Saskatoon, Battleford, Lloydminster, Edmonton, Calgary or maybe even Winnipeg? What about Unity? Are the prices in the city better? Not always! The cost of travel and meals, winter driving….. Don’t forget about the inevitable return of gifts either inappropriate, wrong size, broken or missing pieces……  I’ll let you to do the math!

Have you taken the time to browse through each store in Unity? I have been through most stores in town shopping as well as collecting knowledge to pass onto my spa guests about the unique shopping available in Unity. There are treasures here that will amaze you.

Recently I had women shopping in the spa say, “We don’t have to go shopping in the city….. Among the stores in Unity you have everything the city has.” This lady had gone to the city for socks and was shocked to see the great variety we carry.           Another commented, “I just spent the last 2 1/2 hours shopping in your town…. Now I’m broke!”

Friends, neighbors and people from Unity and surrounding area – the clock is ticking.

Shop local…. Found Treasures, Our Drug Store, Wildeman Sport Store (Tan Jay +) The Resource Center, Bargain Shop, Fields, Guys Furniture, Cinema Satellite, Crystal Clarity, The Co-op, AG Foods, Junction 21 (Western Wear +), Ilene’s Quilting, Country Pantry, Flowers by Joan, Unity Travel Shop, 2nd Avenue Cinema, Home Based Businesses, Hair Dressers, Liquor Stores, Spa City and Sunrise Wellness Spa or buy someone a membership to the Gym, CrossFit, Pilates or Yoga. We have all worked hard to bring you the best for a local shopping experience. Shopping in Unity is not as hurried as the city and the distance from store to store is minimal. Many businesses partake in Winter Wonderland on December 3 from 6-9 pm to provide you shopping that fits into your busy life.

Be sure to enter your name at participating stores for the “GRAND IN YOUR HAND”.

Foot Care Importance

FOOT CARE IMPORTANCE

Pedicures may not interest you as you probably think painted toenails and pretty feet.

What if I told you I am referring to something so much more….. I will share with you the importance of Foot Care!

As we age, or from an injury our nails change. There are three conditions I want to address.

  1. Fungus – Is a common condition that begins as a white or yellow spot under the tip of your fingernail or toenail. As the fungal infection goes deeper, nail fungus may cause your nail to discolor, thicken and crumble at the edge and become irritated. It does not affect all nails. Left untreated the nail grows thick and grotesque. The yeast can affect different parts of the toe nail, finger nail or skin.

Treatment with a Helius pedicure machine will grind down thick nails and your therapist will cut away all the dead toenail. Note  the  machine  used  for this procedure.

Foot Logix Fungus Tincture is a highly recommended at home treatment to use between appointments with a qualified nail and foot care pedicure specialist.

  1. Ingrown Toe Nails – The great toe takes the blunt of this problem. It can happen on either side of the nail. Cutting down the side of the nail relieves a lot of pressure and with special tools can be filed down favorably. You must have this done regularly by a qualified nail and foot care pedicurist so you will not have to have it cut out.
  1. Hammer Toes – There is a type of massage and stretching that will prevent hammer toes from becoming a severe source of pain that will one day need to be surgically corrected with putting pins in the affected toe or toes.

Do not allow them to get to that stage. On the onset of this condition see an RMT who has taken the active isolated stretching course so your  toes  can be  stretched  effectively and you will learn how to do it as  well  to maintain  the  condition of  your toes. There are  separators to wear  to prevent  the toes  from  rubbing each other and over lapping.

This is called  Foot care. Geraldine  has  taken   the advanced  pedicure  course.

Fall Skin Care Tips

Written By: Christie Pike

There are so many things to love about fall – cozy sweaters, colorful leaves, crisp fresh air and that feeling of change that comes with every new season. Falling leaves could be the first indication that change is in the air, but our skin can also show the effects of a seasonal transition. Seasonal change can leave our skin feeling dull, dry and dehydrated – but it doesn’t have to be that way.

We have 5 simple skin care tips that will help give you that perfect glow all season long:

  1. Don’t forget your Eminence SPF
  1. Exfoliate
  • Exfoliation is the key to glowing skin. As we age, our natural ability to regenerate new skin cells slows. This can cause surface build-up which can leave our skin looking congested, dry and dull. We recommend:
  • Strawberry Rhubarb Dermafoliant(daily treatment)
  • Yam & Pumpkin Enzyme Peel 5% (weekly treatment)
  1. Moisturize, moisturize, moisturize
  • Autumn brings cool, windy weather which can cause your skin to become dry and dehydrated. The fall season is the perfect time to correct any sun damage caused by summer heat and sunshine. Make sure to pick a moisturizer or masque that works best for your skin type. If your skin is extra dry, don’t be afraid to use heavier, natural, oil-based products. We recommend:
  • Facial Recovery Oil
  • Pumpkin Latte Hydration Masque
  1. Body care is a must. Skin care doesn’t stop at your neckline – it’s important to moisturize and treat every beautiful inch of your skin. To help keep your skin healthy (after that summer tan) look for products that nourish and even out your skin tone. We recommend:

Stone Crop Body Lotion

  1. Protect your lips. The cool fall weather can leave your lips feeling dry and cracked. Protect and moisturize your lips daily with a non-petroleum based lip balm to keep your lips kissable all year long. We recommend:

Autumn Chop Salad

Beauty starts from the inside out. It starts and ends with eating Healthy.

Written by Chloe Hunt:

With leaves turning orange and days growing shorter, our skin will soon feel the seasonal change that arrives with the cold autumn breeze. Fall ushers in lower temperatures that dry our complexions but also brings harvest produce to nourish our skin. Foods like apples, pears, pumpkins and yams are all packed with essential vitamins and nutrients – delicious sensory treats for our taste buds as well as our skin.

To celebrate the arrival of autumn we’ve put together a delicious vegan autumn salad recipe for you to enjoy.

With a blend of vitamin-rich ingredients, this Autumn Chop Salad crams in apples and pears loaded with antioxidants to fight the aging effects of free radicals. Generous spoonfuls of pumpkin seeds bring a rich source of zinc, a mineral needed for immunity and skin health. Yams are another star ingredient – packed with potassium, copper and manganese which energize your body and rejuvenate the skin. Paired with a complementary apple and Dijon mustard dressing, this salad will have you – and your skin – ready for the change in seasons.

AUTUMN CHOP SALAD

INGREDIENTS:
Salad:
(Use organic ingredients wherever possible)
•    ½ cup Granny Smith apple
•    ½ cup ripe pear
•    8 cups spinach
•    ½ cup yams, cut into small cubes
•    ½ cup beets, cut into small cubes
•    3 tablespoons pumpkin seeds
•    1 tablespoon cranberries

INSTRUCTIONS:
Preheat oven to 400 degrees. Chop the yams and beets into small cubes. On a well-oiled baking sheet, distribute the chopped yams and beets evenly and sprinkle with a pinch of salt. Bake the yam and beet cubes for approximately 20 minutes or until browned. While the yam and beet cubes are baking, chop the Granny Smith apples and the pear into small cubes. Once the yam and beet cubes are cooked and nicely browned on the outside, remove them from the oven and place them aside to cool. Once the yam and beet cubes have cooled, mix them with the apple, pear, pumpkin seeds and cranberries and lay them on a bed of spinach.

Salad Dressing:
•    2 tablespoons grainy Dijon mustard
•    1 tablespoon agave syrup
•    2 tablespoons applesauce
•    1 tablespoon pure apple cider vinegar
•    1 tablespoon olive oil

To make the dressing, simply pour all the ingredients into a jar or container, adding ingredients to adjust the taste as you please. Shake well when ready to serve.

My Passion

My Passion, My Vision, My Dream of a European Spa

I have a passion for natural wellness. I believe in living a healthy, active and balanced lifestyle.

After providing and completing 20 years of service in Massage Therapy to the community of Unity. I had the desire to add more value to my services.

I pursued Massage Therapy as a career because of all the help I received 38 years ago. I was so grateful and I wanted to help half as many people as the late Grace Thain from Mid Night Lake had helped over the span of 40 years. I believed I would and have provided a great service to Unity and District.

Once again I was faced with psoriasis and checked out all the options for treatment, there was little out there for me to choose from. Through research I found European Spas offered natural treatments for psoriasis. Twenty years ago there was no training in Saskatchewan so I ventured to acquire the training that I needed.

I went to Raleigh, South Carolina, and Minneapolis to get and understand developing a Spa. I had a number of plans and dreams were grandiose. I continued pursuing training for spa services. I then traveled to Oakland, California to learn about body wraps and different kinds of mud and how to wrap. There is an art to this.

I journeyed to Las Vegas to the ISPA (International Spa Association) and there I gained many contacts and was overwhelmed with all the choices one had to make regarding products from all over the world! Here I connected with a company call Moor, which offers the most amazing mud that I still use in the Spa today.

My next journey was to Santa Fe, New Mexico where a German couple came to teach the Kniepe method of spa treatments. It was fascinating and exciting to learn all the health benefits that could be addressed through the use of Hot and Cold Water Treatments under high pressure. Learning that all showers and baths should end with ice cold water for great health benefits.

Other amazing body treatments that I learned about and continue to provide at the Spa:

  • Body Brushing using natural bristle brushes
  • Body Wraps using linen material, European muds, peat and seaweed from all over the world and from different depths of the oceans
  • Hydrotherapy using the Kniepe Method

These body treatments will help with different skin problems, calm nervous system reducing stress load on body, reduce swelling from legs, detoxify and re-energize the body.

This in not magic or an overnight quick fix, it take time. To restore for body and to address any ailments the body has it take time. We suggest doing 6 consecutive treatments as well as setting up a specific home care system for 30 days. It is absolutely regenerating and reviving experience.

I continue to attend yearly Spa conferences in Vancouver or Vegas. One has to keep up with the industry. When I travel I go and experience different spa treatments to see what they are like and see if I would bring them into my spa.

Today there are many “Spas” but few that offer the treatment with water or all the mud treatments.

Call and Book your Body Wraps/ Exfoliation or Hydrotherapy Treatments.

Experience all of this right here in Unity!
