Healing with Aromatherapy

AROMATHERAPY & ESSENTIAL OILS

Essential Oils are effectively the immune system of the plant kingdom. They are commonly steam or water distilled from the leaves, stems, flowers, bark, roots, or other elements of a plant. There are various extraction methods, but whether these are obtained as oils, hydrosol, absolutes or CO2 extracts, they all contain the natural, aromatic and volatile plant oils used in Aromatherapy.

Aromatherapy is a holistic therapy using volatile plant oils, including essential oils, for spiritual, psychological and physical well-being. Oils are typically inhaled or applied to the skin.

All of our products, with the exception of our 10-20% single notes, are natural, undiluted and of the highest quality. These concentrated oils must often be diluted with other natural ingredients such as cold-pressed carrier oils, jojoba, butters, waxes, sea salts and clays for dilution prior to application on the skin.

Our newest synergy is made with the Essential Oils of…Marjoram | Patchouli | Roman Chamomile | German Chamomile | Lemongrass | Tangerine | Peppermint | Ginger | Black Pepper | Cardamom | Fennel | Angelica Root

Tum-Ease is a therapeutic synergy formulated to alleviate digestive discomfort. May be helpful for cases of nausea, constipation, bloating and stomach ache.

It is comprised of 13 essential oils that have a special affinity for the digestive system. Due to the extensive amount of essential oils contained in Tum-Ease, it is able to address many stomach related issues.

HOW TO USE TUM-EASE

Tum-Ease can be applied topically to the skin.

Dilution: 5 drops of Tum-Ease Synergy to 5 ml of carrier oil, this will give you a more concentrated formula.

Massage onto abdomen in a clockwise direction, re-apply as needed.

For your convenience, you may also create a rollerball so it is handy wherever and whenever needed! Use the formula above as a guideline for dilution. Our rollerballs are 10 ml, so add 10 drops of Tum-Ease synergy and fill the rollerball with a carrier oil of your choice. We highly recommend Jojoba when making rollerballs as it never goes rancid the way vegetable oils do.

May your tummy be healthy and happy!

SAFETY

Tum-Ease is not advised for children or pregnant women. Those with epilepsy or kidney disease should avoid. Some of the oils in Tum-Ease may cause redness or irritation to the skin. In this case, dilute further or discontinue use.

NATIVE ESSENCES

Written By Aigle Bleu

birdFor native peoples of all the continents, the truths and realities of the world, whether spiritual or philosophical, lie within nature itself. They have been inscribed directly there by the primordial intelligence that we, descending from the First Nations of North America, call Great Spirit. Although various names are used depending on the culture or religious tradition, reference is always to the same Creative Intelligence. Invocations goal is to convey a philosophy and spirituality of life in balance and harmony with nature

blue-eageI chose to convey this ancestral wisdom through all the activities of my life. I have therefore written books, composed music and created the Native Essences, a specific form of First Nations aromatherapy. Two Native Essences have been developed to date: Chiiyaam and Miwahu.

miwahThe idea behind the creation of Chiiyaam came to me as I was helping First Nations patients from the Far North being treated in an intensive care unit. I had been called in as a First Nations’ medicine-man, but it was impossible for me to practice the traditional purification rites, since they imply the use of smoke (cedar, sage and sweet grass).

I therefore turned to essential oils, adding sweet grass extract and corn spirits to the white sage and Canadian cedar. The first blend turned out interesting but its smell was unpleasant. That is when I decided to train with a renown French perfumer – Michel Roudnitska – and an essential oils specialist – Mikaël Zayat. I was then able to work on creating an essence that would have a pleasant fragrance and be effective at the same time. I undertook a spiritual search as well: my creation had to qualify as an offering if it was to be equivalent to traditional smudging. I therefore included a ritual aspect to the manufacturing process. I call this encoding since it adds specific intentions to the liquid, such as “purification”, “protection”, “healing” and “inspiration”. The result was very satisfying and my essence seemed even more effective than traditional smudging.

I realized that it could be useful to many people. So I decided to add a purifying plant essence to the formula—one for each human type: lavender for the European type, frankincense for the African type and sandalwood for the Asian type. “Invocation’s Liquid Smudge”, now called Chiiyaam, was born!

Many therapists use Chiiyaam. Chiiyaam purifies the environment and people much like traditional smudging. To purify yourself, simply spray Chiiyaam onto the palms of your hands and move them, palms open towards you, around your body. To purify a room, spray Chiiyaam towards its four corners and, for an object, either spray it directly or use your hands, moving them around the object. Therapists have appreciated the power of its immediate effectiveness and the fact that it clears fast, leaving a light and very pleasant scent.

The story of Miwahu began a few years ago when the Liquid Smudge, now Chiiyaam, was still the only Invocation essence. It all started with a request from the ladies working in our offices for a more feminine Native Essence. I imagined using sweet grass as the main ingredient, and worked for nearly two years to select the plants that would harmonize with this sacred herb. The resulting fragrance, Grâces, turned out to be too expensive to produce. But I have high hopes that it will be available someday, and am now working on a counterpart for men.

Meanwhile, I turned to French high perfumery for help in manufacturing a decently priced Energizing Native Essence. Perfume master Michel Roudnitska was instrumental in the process of creating Miwahu to which I gave a few pointers in its final stages.

The selection of plants used creates a synergy that develops in time like a symphony. The top note, featuring bergamot and mandarin, is light, conveys enthusiasm and stimulates creativity. The middle note, or heart note, with clary sage and vetiver, is floral and slightly heady. It attracts beneficial energies and encourages them to remain. The base note is deeper and persistent. It features sweet grass, oak moss, cistus and vanilla.

I perform an ancestral First Nations ritual on each batch of Invocation’s Native Essence—for both Chiiyaam and Miwahu. This amplifies the properties as it confers the following encoding and intentions TO Miwahu: attracting beneficial energies, favorable circumstances, clarity and harmony.

The use of Miwahu complements that of Chiiyaam. Ideally, it is best to use Chiiyaam first, to appease, soothe and purify. It is immediately effective and soon clears. After a fifteen-minute wait, Miwahu can be used to foster dynamism, enthusiasm and creativity. It will come into effect gradually and its fragrance develops throughout the day when it is applied to clothes or directly on the skin.

Five other fragrances are now available; forming a series called The Five Elements. 5-elements

How to Stay Healthy Start With Your Skin Here at the Sunrise Wellness Spa!

How to Stay Healthy? You Start with Your Skin!

Our skin is the largest organ of our body and the fastest growing. It needs to be clean and free of dead skin cells to function at its best. Our skin weighs 16% of our body weight; approximately 8lbs. It covers 22 Sq Ft. Your skin cells go through a 28 day cycle and as you age the cell regeneration process slows down to approximately 37 days.

There is no other organ that is more actively engaged in discharging impurities from the body than the skin; it is a close relative with the lungs and kidneys.

I introduced dry brushing into the spa and added it on our spa menu to give a natural choice to skin health.

In the beginning I had skin brushing as a stand-alone treatment that was offered in Europe. We have now added the Dry Brushing treatment to all of our Detoxing Body Treatments because of the amazing health benefits that it has.

Dry Brushing Health Benefits Are:

  • sloughs off dead skin cells that may cause skin irritation and health issues over time if not dealt with
  • encourages skin cell renewal and helps skin pore functions- sweat and oil glands
  • enhance blood circulation
  • lymphatic drainage
  • alleviate the fibrous nodules around fat cells, which is what we call cellulite. it forms do vein and lymph congestion.
  • strengthens the Bioenergy System- vital chi flow is essential to prevention and the cure of diseases.

Bruce Berkowsky, N.MD developed the Vital Chi Skin Brushing system that stimulates the lymphatic system and calms down the nervous system.  This is the system that we use and the direction in which you brush is very important.

I was first introduced to Dry Brushing when I took my training for Body Treatments by my German teacher… I have experienced this treatment many times since then. I found that it helped to relax and take the stress load off the nervous system and my psoriasis was much calmer as well. It is a treatment that I will continually do for myself as well as for my clients.

We do European Mud Wraps to detox your body to bring renewed balance. Fall is a great time of the year to get a Body Wrap. The Dry Brushing sloughs off all the dead or damaged skin cells from the summer sun and the rich nutrients of the Moor Mud will hydrate, heal and replenish so you have happy, healthy, glowing skin! Our skin is our largest organ and it needs a little TLC so we can age gracefully.
